The Library of Babel

This project began with an investigation of
conceptual ideas through varying mediums and methods. The idea of moving through spaces and finding yourself in impossible interiors was created through a short film. This concept of impossible spaces within spaces finds itself in a secular
monastery located just outside of Joshua
Tree National Park.

Giving the lack of formal strusture and planning on the existing site the building creates its own urban grid from the dominant topograpghy of the hillside. Within the grid programmatic functions such as living quarters, gathering spaces, offices, etc. are placed creating a network of interior and exterior spaces.
